Dear Members,
I hope you are all keeping well. Last week we held our Advisory Board meeting and as ever, I came away feeling positive and enthused by the passion and commitment of our board members to advance the deployment and development of 5G across the UK. A particular highlight for me was hearing updates from each of our Working Groups, who remain highly engaged and delivering important work over four years after their initial inception.
Other noteworthy news of the last week was DCMS’ announcement of key principles for the development and deployment of Open RAN equipment.
These principles – based around open disaggregation, standards-based compliance, demonstrated interoperability and implementation neutrality – aim to clarify the position of the UK and help to accelerate the roll out of Open RAN and the diversity of the telecoms supply chain.
I’m looking forward to seeing the FRANC projects explore these principles and more over the coming months.
Yours sincerely,
Robert Driver, Head of UK5G
