Dr Alex Connock is an academic and entrepreneur in digital content.
Academically he is Fellow at Oxford University’s Said School of Business, in Management Practice (Marketing), where he teaches on MBA and Executive Education courses.He is also Senior Tutor of the Master’s degree course at the UK’s National Film and Television School in creative entrepreneurship. He is entrepreneur in residence at European business school INSEAD, and visiting professor at Salford University where he has created MA and BA-level courses in Digital Video Production and Marketing. He is also visiting professor at Sunderland and Manchester Metropolitan universities, and creative leader in residence at UCLAN. He has a PhD in video optimisation for e-commerce, as well as degrees from Oxford (PPE), Columbia University (Journalism) and INSEAD (MBA).
Commercially, he has run a sequence of production companies. In 2018 he founded Missile Digital Studios, producing content for the BBC and commercial customers. He previously led production companies Endemol Shine North (2011-16) and Ten Alps (now Zinc Media) which he co-founded with Bob Geldof and ran as CEO rom 1998 to 2011, and which included major documentary production businesses such as Brook Lapping and Blakeway, plus digital agency DBDA and the UK government’s digital Teachers TV channel project. Through all these companies he has been involved in hundreds of TV productions for all major UK plus many international broadcasters, as well as TV and digital commercials and digital branded content. He has six times been shortlisted as Entrepreneur of the Year.
Non-executive roles currently include Unicef UK, The Halle Orchestra and UK 5G. Alex is an Academy full member at BAFTA, and a patron of the Edinburgh International TV Festival.
