Enabling 5G connectivity for digital engineering

Panel Outline

This panel will introduce the audience to the 5G-ENCODE project and describe in detail its target industrial 5G Use Cases. The 5G-ENCODE Project, is a £9 million collaborative project aiming to develop clear business cases and value propositions for 5G applications in manufacturing industry. The project is partially funded by DCMS part of their 5G Testbeds and Trials Programme. The project is one of the UK Government’s biggest investment in 5G for manufacturing to date. Other consortia partners include the National Composites Centre (NCC), Telefonica, Siemens, Toshiba, Solvay, Plataine, Mativision, and the University of Bristol.


Speakers:

  • Stacey Downton, Programme Manager, National Composites Centre
    Stacey Downton is a Digital Business Unit Technology Programme Manager at the NCC, responsible for managing the NCC’s latest initiative: DETI (Digital Engineering and Technology Innovation). Stacey has extensive experience managing technical projects at the NCC and was most recently involved in the design, build, and development of the NCC’s latest technology acquisitions; iCAP. Stacey is looking forward to further supporting the development of these state-of-the-art capabilities and looks forward to moving with the NCC into its next phase; the digital revolution!
  • Anthony Karydis, Founder & CEO, Mativision
    Anthony Karydis is the Managing Director of Mativision Limited a global leader in Immersive Tech and winner of the 2019 Digital Catapult Platinum Award. Anthony has over 30 years of working experience from establishing high-tech companies to University lecturing. He is a Fellow-Royal Photographic Society, Senior Associate-Royal Society of Medicine, with a passion for cats, Jazz/Blues & electric guitars.
  • Vincent Aerts, Head, Composite Materials, SOLVAY

I am Vincent Aerts, Process Innovation Engineer at Solvay Composite Materials. I am a Chemical Engineer by training and hold a PhD in Materials Sciences. I have been working in the Composites Industry for over 15 years starting at Cytec Engineered Materials Ltd, now Solvay,  in the Strategic Research Team based out of Wilton before moving to the Product Development Team based out of Wrexham 10 years ago. During this time, I've supported and led the development of multiple new products and technologies for the aerospace industry within our thermoset chemistry portfolio.

I have recently transferred to Solvay Composite Materials Process Innovation Team. Amongst other areas of focus within Process Innovation, manufacturing digitalization, the IIoT, and associated analytics are of great interest to improve our manufacturing performances. I am currently evaluating the potential benefits for the company and our customers of Materials Assets Tracking in real time and the creation of a Digital Material Passport for our time and temperature-sensitive materials.

  • Vassilis Seferidis, CEO, Zeetta Networks
    Vassilis is CEO and founder of Zeetta Networks an innovative technology spin-out from the University of Bristol company offering Open Networking solutions that monitor, optimise and automate the operations of complex ICT networks to extract greater efficiency and agility while enhancing the end-user experience and reduce the overall networking costs.  Vassilis has more than 25 years’ experience in executive management positions within the Telecoms industry with companies like British Telecom, Toshiba, Philips, QIO Systems and British Standards Institute. Before founding Zeetta Networks, Vassilis was VP of Business Development for Samsung Electronics responsible for driving revenue growth and strategic development of Samsung’s business in Europe. In 2011 Vassilis has been included in the Euro50 list of the 50 most influential people in the European Telecoms industry in Europe
  • Muquid Ali (Moderator), 5G EnCode Programme Manager
    Senior telecommunications and technology professional with over 20 years’ international industry and leadership experience. Has led the successful delivery of multiple leading edge 5G testbeds and trials programmes across the UK and currently engaged with 5G Encode. An expert in Technology Strategy, Audit and Due Diligence, Transformation, Benefit Realization and Programme Management.
