DCMS briefing event for an International Open RAN R&D collaboration opportunity

In 2020, the government set out its ambitions for supply chain diversification in the 5G Supply Chain Diversification Strategy. Two important elements of the strategy relate to Open RAN and also international collaboration.

Within industry, there is a recognition of the importance and value of interoperability. This has led to a range of initiatives and the development of technical applications of interoperability, such as Open RAN. The government is committed to supporting these and other emerging deployment methods, where they align with the aim to open up the market to increased competition, innovation and diversity.

Government also recognises the importance of international collaboration and policy co-ordination to drive long-term and sustainable change in the supply market. The UK makes up less than 2% of the global supply market so international partnership is critical in creating scale and opportunity for new and emerging entrants to establish themselves in the market.

This briefing event is open to those that may be interested in such an opportunity, including:

  • Organisations involved in the development, trialling and usage of applications, products and services;
  • Network providers;
  • Mobile Network Operators;
  • Technology vendors;
  • Local authorities and other public service delivery bodies.

If you wish to attend this briefing event, please register by COP Friday 29 July.

Please note that, if you are looking for potential collaborators, there will be opportunities for networking and also for delegates to deliver a three-minute pitch (with a maximum of three slides).

If you would like to give a pitch, please select the option when you register for the event. Please note that pitching slots will be granted on a “first come, first served” basis.

More information about this opportunity will be shared in due course. If you have any queries, please contact ONP.enquiries@dcms.gov.uk stating clearly in the subject header ‘International Collaboration opportunity’.
