    Francesca is a Telecom exec with 15 years of experience with roles spanning solution strategy, technical and strategic marketing, and business development.

    She is currently working at Ofcom as Technology Consultant with key focus on 5G security and resilience.

    Prior to joining Ofcom, she has worked for ICT vendor NEC for 15 years holding various senior roles across diverse technologies: AI, IoT, smart city/data platform, LTE, 5G, NFV/SDN.

    In her latest role in NEC, Francesca has led the business incubation activity of digital transformation solutions. Key responsibilities included developing synergies across business units, technology partners and emerging technologies to enable the realization of the digital agenda of city authorities across Europe as well as the definition of network transformation roadmap for service providers.

    Prior to this role, she has been responsible of strategy, business incubation and GTM activities of both customer experience and innovative small cell solutions.

    Francesca is driven by passion for technology and innovation and has been a key contributor in the standardization of LTE technology holding a number of patents on important functionalities including Self Organizing Network, Ran Sharing Enhancement, and 4G security.

    Chair of the UK5G International Working Group

    Dr Mike Short CBE, after 30 years in telecommunications with Telefonica, joined the Department for International Trade (DIT) as the department’s first chief scientific adviser in December 2017. Mike leads the science and engineering  profession  in  the  department  and  ensures  its  policy  is informed  by  the  best  science,  engineering  and  technical  advice.  He advises  on  the  technical aspects of future trade deals as DIT looks to create new arrangements following Brexit, and works with  the  UK’s  research,  development  and  academic  communities  to  boost  scientific  and engineering exports.

    Mike has over 40 years’ experience in electronics and telecommunications and served as vice president of Telefonica, the  parent  company  of  the  O2  mobile  phone  network,  for  17  years  to December 2016. In this post, he managed the launch of 2G (GSM) and 3G mobile technologies in the UK, and  led  research  and  development  for  Telefonica  Europe. His  career  also  includes  the promotion  of  international  technical  standards  in  mobile  technology,  and  he  is  also  a  former Chairman of the Global GSM Association, the UK Mobile Data Association, and president of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

    He is currently  a visiting professor at  the  universities of  Surrey,  Coventry,  Leeds,  Lancaster and Salford,  where  in  recent  years  he  has  led  the  development  on  collaborations  in  areas  such  as smart cities, digital healthcare, cybersecurity and driverless vehicles. He was honoured with a CBE in 2012 for his services to the mobile industry.

    The University of Bristol’s Smart Internet Lab

    Dimitra Simeonidou is a Full Professor at the University of Bristol, the Director of the Smart Internet Lab and Head of the High-Performance Networks group (HPN). Her research is focusing in the fields of high performance networks, programmable networks, wireless-optical convergence and smart city infrastructures. Dimitra has been the Technical Architect and the CTO of the smart city project Bristol Is Open. She is currently leading Bristol’s 5G urban pilots.

    She is the author and co-author of over 400 publications, numerous patents and several major contributions to standards.

    She has been co-founder of two spin-out companies, the latest being the University of Bristol VC funded spin-out Zeetta Networks, http://www.zeetta.com, delivering SDN solutions for enterprise networks.

    Dimitra is a Royal Society Wolfson scholar.

    Rosalind Singleton is a telecoms exec with over 25 years of experience in the sector.  She is also a Board chair, advisor and angel investor. 

    Rosalind joined UK Broadband in 2013 and has been Managing Director since 2017.  She has previously held senior roles at BT Openreach, Cable and Wireless, Vodafone, various VNOs, and other international operators from start-ups to incumbents.

    UK Broadband delivers wireless broadband to customers across the country through retail and wholesale services, and delivers campus and Enterprise wireless solutions to critical national infrastructure providers and local government customers across the UK.  

    She is also Chair of the UK5G Advisory Board.  UK5G is the national innovation network dedicated to the promotion of research, collaboration and the commercial application of 5G in the UK, providing advice to and working closely with the Department for Digital, Cultural, Media and Sport (DCMS). 

    Rosalind has recently been appointed to Ofcom’s Spectrum Advisory Board which provides independent advice to Ofcom on strategic spectrum management issues.

    For the last four years Rosalind has been an active angel investor and mentor and has led several deals.  She is focussed primarily on tech businesses with a female founder.  One of Rosalind’s deals won “Female Led Investment of the Year” at the UKBAA 2018 awards.  Her investments span wearables, products, software, soft drinks, big data and blockchain in both B2B and B2C spheres.  She is a member of the Angel Academe Advisory Board.
