Made in 5G: exploring the future of connectivity and 5G in UK manufacturing
Brighton is home to Britain's first non-university-led 5G testbed which was set up in 2017 to link businesses and universities and to try to enable cutting-edge technological innovation. It is one of the projects backed by the Greater Brighton Economic Board, which includes the council among its member organisations.
Its aim is to bring solutions with good commercial prospects from R&D and testing into early real-world deployment to meet the demand for faster more reliable and flexible mobile network services. Our goal is that the rollout of 5G will be more advanced and happen quicker than other European and global 5G initiatives to give UK businesses a competitive advantage. You can find out more about the Digital Catapult testbed here.
Digital Catapult, with its partners Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival and Wired Sussex recently hosted 5G in Action, showcasing the unique 5G capabilities available in Brighton and the opportunities the technology brings, demonstrated by the innovative solutions startups are developing as part of Digital Catapult’s 5G Testbed Accelerator Programme.
