5G lights up in the UK

After years of hype, the UK’s first 5G network has gone live today.

This marks a significant milestone for the UK and has understandably hit the headlines.

Whilst the 5G consumer services launched are truly impressive, I can’t help but focus on a bigger picture.

Having worked across diverse industries, it’s clear there is a genuine opportunity for 5G to drive the transformation of businesses in ways which have never been possible before.

The UK telecom industry has all the technical capabilities to succeed in industrial markets, but will need to adapt quickly to changing environments to reach its potential.

I’m in no doubt we will start to see this play out in the form of new service-enablement platforms that respond to the unique needs of diverse industries. Bespoke 5G connectivity, virtualization, APIs and ‘market led’ carrier strategies all have the potential to lead the digital transformation of industry. We outline many of these strategies in our new ‘The real power’ of 5G’ paper.

It’s an exciting week for 5G in the UK, but we’ve only just started.
